What a Flippin Mess!!!

So it has been one of those days today! I have just been doing the normal every day cleaning and picking up after my kids. I swear all that I do is follow the kids around (mainly Tylie) and clean up mess after mess. I am so sick and tired of it. I am SO ready for the boys to go back to school on Monday so we can get back into some sort of normal... whatever that may be.

Anyway, I walked down into the basement to put something away and I didn't have my shoes on. I walked past the our freezer down there and the carpet felt a little wet, so I opened the freezer to check it out. WHAT A FLIPPIN MESS is all I can say!!! Everything in there was completely thawed out and there was LOTS of meat, therefore lots of yucky disgusting red juice EVERYWHERE! And of course the meat had to be on the top shelf, so yep you guessed it, the juice had dripped onto everything else in the freezer. I about puked. It was so gross!!!

I was sick as I had to unload the entire freezer and throw it ALL away. Do you know how much money that had to have been? There was hamburger, steaks, roast, 3 turkeys (YES 3), lots of different kinds of fish, and much much more. I wanted to scream, oh wait, I actually did scream!

It took me about 2 hours to get the mess cleaned up, and the freezer washed out and bleached and bleached and bleached.

As I investigated as to why the freezer was off in the first place (thinking one of the kids must have unplugged it), I found the problem. . . . the little safety button that is on the plug outlet had popped out, therefore turning the power to that outlet off. I don't know how that happened, but it did.

So now I have a COMPLETELY empty, but VERY clean freezer. Now I have to get a carpet cleaner to clean the carpet down there. Thank heavens it is just crappy carpet that we have put down there for the kids to have their playroom.

I could cry for you :( I've been wondering why I haven't talked to you today? I do have to say I was PRAYING the entire time I read your post "please don't let it be my kids that left the freezer open, please don't let it be my kids" I wonder if it tripped when the power was out before we left to camp???? I'm so sorry! I'll be down for a drink run right away!

Oh my gosh, Lisa, that is awful!! I'm so sorry! At least you found it BEFORE it started rotting or something...that would've been even worse if the smell would've been the thing to lead you there! That's SO sad though!

I'm so, so, so very sorry! That about makes you sick: losing all that meat AND literally make you sick cleaning it up. I feel your pain about constantly cleaning up, it's all I ever do. Thank goodness school is starting, I've been counting down to this week since it let out in May. Did I just say that out loud? Just do your breathing excercises and think about how much fun we are going to have the next 2 weekends!!

That sucks!!.....I should know, it happened to us a few years ago. We lost a ton too, mostly elk meat from a hunt I went on shortly before....about 185 lbs. The cleaning was the worst part, as you obviously have now experienced. You should consider taking out the GFCI so that can't happen again. Good luck restocking....and try not to panic too much everytime you walk past it.....I know MY heart nearly stops when I go past ours and it drives me crazy!

What? No picture. Just kidding. I have to tell you that I am pretty impressed that it only took you 2 hours to clean up a mess like that. Hope tomarrow looks better.

First, I can't believe Mo found out reading your blog! Too funny!

Second, I'm feeling like the trailing kids around the house , and entertainer/clean up lady to, so I know your pain girl..

Three, You may have screamed, but I would have gathered all of the chicks AND the rooster to help clean it all! One of those days that makes you need a girls night out! Hope tommorow is better..

I'm sorry for your losses. I'm glad it wasn't any of the kids fault!

OH NO!!! That's not good. I just did that last month. Luckily mine was in the garage, but it was so hot in there and it made it STINK! I bleached and cleaned and threw out all of our frozen things too. TONS of money just in the trash. I'm glad your kids didn't have anything to do with it. MINE DID!!! Hayden pulled the cord out when he was trying to get to his bike. He knew it, but was too lazy to plug it back in. I know exactly how mad you were. I'm happy that I didn't have any carpet close by though. That must be yucky. I'm so sorry that had to happen.

I am SOOOOOO sorry! That is one of my biggest fears! During the last week of school, I came home for lunch and found my kintchen flooded! I thought for sure that it was the dishwasher, but it was the auto ice dispenser in the freezer. It had ice in the opening for the door and just kept kicking ice out and melting all day!! What a mess! I had to pull out all of my applliances to dry under them...such a pain!

Oh...I feel your pain. That same thing happened to us a couple months ago. My dad had just had one of his beef cows slaughtered and we had gotten a freezer full of meat, not to mention the 2 full bags of chicken I bought from Costco. But I have to say the mess was the worst part of all. I'm sorry :( There is nothing more nasty!
