Yep, that's right! This last weekend I was playing wedding cake maker! You're probably thinking the same thing as everyone else right now..... "I didn't know that she made wedding cakes," Well, that's because I don't. Or at least I haven't for a REALLY LONG TIME. So I was a little bit surprised when Jen asked me to make hers. If it would have been anyone else, I don't think I would have agreed to do it, or should I say my sweet hubby wouldn't have LET me do it! In fact, I didn't even tell him that I was doing it until a few days before because he hates it when I do them. You may not believe this, but I usually get really stressed out and freak out a wee little bit. But I promised him that I wasn't even stressing this one and I would be fine. And guess what ??? IT WAS! I was very calm and collected the entire time.
I think it has seriously been at least 4 years since I have even decorated a cake of any kind, let alone a wedding cake. Oh, and not to mention, I had NEVER done a cake out of fondant. Well, I wanted to try fondant, so I had done a lot of research about it on the i
nternet and felt pretty good about it. Well, you'd think that having never done it before, I'd at least practice before the night before I had to do it... right? Oh no, I am a last minute person and with my crazy busy life, that's just what happens and and how I roll :) So here are some pictures of the process, and of course the finished product.
Bryson was my little photographer and as always he loves taking pictures.
He actually does a pretty good job.
Here I am getting it all smooth. So fun!

This is the cake before I put on the finishing touches. You can tell that I wasn't too worried about the bottom edges because I knew that they were going to be covered up in the end.

And... the finished product. Of course it wasn't perfect, but I was pretty happy with how it turned out, especially for my first try at it!

So I said earlier that I am a last minute type a gal, well, we got the cake delivered at the reception with 15 minutes to spare before it started! And no, I wasn't even stressed at this point! I am sure that it was because Jodi and the girls know me, and know that I was right on time!
I have to say that there is NO way that I could have done this without my fav sis Mo! She was totally awesome and had my kids both Fri. and Sat. while I worked on the cake. Jeremy had guard so he wasn't any help with them, and there was NO way that I could have done it with them here. So she was so good to help out and kept them at her house while I slaved away. So thanks Mo, you are my LIFESAVER!!!
